Frequently Asked Questions

What is it made of?

It is a cementious product.

Is this a new product?

Yes and no. It is new to Canada, but it has been used for over 30 years in Scandinavia.

Where can it be used?

Outdoors, it can be used for new construction and for renovating building walls, as well as for landscaping around porches, etc...

Indoors, on walls, it can be used as a functional and decorative heat shield for wood stoves.

Can I install it?

Yes, fairly easily. There is a thorough installation manual available and a few simple tools are needed; power drill, tin-snips, circular saw with a dry cut masonry blade.

What's the purpose of the air space?

The purpose of the air space is to allow ventilation. This is otherwise known as a vented rain-screen effect.

As an indoor application, the air space is necessary for use behind a wood stove. It allows the hot air to ventilate, thereby allowing the wall surface behind the brick to stay cooler.

Can the clearances for wood stoves be reduced?

Yes, up to 50% reduction in clearance over the wood stove manufacturer's label can be achieved, as per ULC Code.

Can it be sealed or painted?

Yes, but it is not necessary. The colour pigments are throughout the bricks, and an ad-mix is used to seal the product, inside and out. The colours are fade resistant. However, if custom colours are desired the bricks can be painted.
